Congratulations Will. You got your heir apparent. Hope he stays healthier than Rex Grossman has to date. :)

Some random thoughts after the first baker's dozen picks in the Draft.

--Hmmmm... A. Smith selected first. Last A. Smith I remember being drafted this high was named Akili, and we know how great he turned out. I'm not sold on Alex Smith...but we'll see.

--I think I might have preferred seeing the Bears take Mike Williams, but I'm happy with Cedric Benson, even though, like Earl Campbell, Eddie George, Ricky Williams, etc., I have a feeling Benson will last about seven years or so, maximum. I mean, the guy had, what did they say, 1,100 carries throughout college? Good to see him emotional, and good interview--sounds like he's pretty pissed at much of the league for putting him through a bunch of crap.

--I never actually heard Romeo Crennel speak, but the first thing I thought when I heard him interview with Berman was, "Put the lotion in the basket." He so sounds like that dude from "Silence of the Lambs," but less sinister...I didn't know that.

--If Chris Berman talks about "Shake, Rattle and Roll" anymore, I'm going to puke.

--So, who will the Lions trade? Mike Williams, Roy Williams or Charles Rogers? Or will they be signing Warren Moon shortly after the draft?

--Tom Condon should not have been interviewed by ESPN...it legitimized asshole agents. And he proved his asshole-ness by saying in response to a question about the Eli Manning situation last year something like "The team (the Chargers) had a problem last year, but this year is different (with the 49ers)." What a load of crap! And it's a shame that Suzy Kolber didn't call him on it. Manning was the one with the problem, not the Chargers. And ESPN basically legitimized that bullcrap...I hate ESPN.

--Further incensing me: Andrea Kramer with Jon Jansen...What if the Redskins take Antrell Rolle and bring another Miami guy on board? Duh, Andrea, Rolle was JUST TAKEN by the Cardinals. If it was taped, find a different question to ask Jansen...there's a boatload. Then she tries to cover her ass after he answers by saying, well, we don't have to worry about that possibility actually, because Rolle was just taken by the Cardinals. Stupid.

--I've been trying to explain to Gina all of this, and she's taking it in pretty well. My first example of a trade just came over (Texans-Saints), so she understands why a team would do that a little better now.

--Dude, Sam Mills died? Damn...that was a feel-good story if ever there was one. I'm marginally sad about that. Those Saints linebackers kicked ass.

Boy, I've been lazy about blogging lately, haven't I?

I've driven everyone away...I get no comments. Boy, that sucks.

I know I'm more capable of better posts than this. I'm traveling to San Francisco the latter half of next week and then to Austin the latter half of the following week. Maybe, by then, I'll be able to think of a new and improved format...something interesting. Something intriguing. Something brain-stimulating.

All these bloggers out there have readers upon readers and spout pieces of wisdom. They come up with it somewhere, so why can't I? I'm not a total moron, ya know?

I think that, much like other things in my life, if I apply myself and truly give it some thought, I can come up with something interesting. Hell, it's life, and I can expound on it, ya know?

So, maybe I'll come up with an interesting daily format, and then hopefully I can stick with it.

Until then, boring daily updates, such as, "My work team held softball practice yesterday, and it was good."

Oh, and Happy Earth Day. Go plant something. Or, just avoid killing anything. And tread lightly--all that pavement pounding gives Mother Earth an awful headache.

Do vegetarians fast today, so as not to kill the offspring of Mother Earth? Do construction/mining crews take the day off to give Mother Earth a break from the infliction of skin sores today? Does the Sun ever decide to let Mother Earth roam free in her orbit as a gift on Earth Day? Why hasn't Hallmark taken Earth Day to the next level, like they've done with every other "holiday"?

No, I'm not high or drunk...just practicing for the new format. :)

It's nice to look and see the Yankees tied for the third-worst team in the majors.

It's also nice to look and see the White Sox as the top American League team and two games ahead of the Twins.

It's also realistic Chicago-fan pessimism to believe in the back of my mind that this won't stay this way.

And, one final note: Laz, your Mets suck. How do they score 16 runs and Carlos Beltran only goes 1-for-5 with one RBI and one run? Bastard.

Well, Smores was put to sleep this morning...my brother said it went as well as it could have gone. He and my Dad took her in. So that's that. It's sad, but anyone who saw my parents having to carry her down the stairs in a blanket and watched her hobble around the backyard yesterday would say that this had to be done. She was 13 years old. Fixing her hips would have cost a fortune, and for what? And who's to say she would even survive that. But at least she isn't in pain anymore...I stopped at my parents' house to say goodbye yesterday, and she licked my hands and arms (which, for some reason, she always liked to do...was one of those weird things...I could never tell if it was her motherly instincts and she was cleaning me, or if she was just nervous about something and licked me to calm her nerves, or what...but whatever).

I went home and told Kazak that he better not make me choose whenever he gets too old to go on. It will not be a choice I'll ever look forward to making.

So, that's that. What more can I say? Thanks for the good thoughts and prayers...
