--115 days.

--OK, I had to post today, because of reason 3,452 why the TV news sucks. Did anyone see the "near tragic" story about the poor woman who was pumping gas in Homewood when her car was driven away with her four-year-old daughter inside? Scary, no doubt, to have your car taken from you, let alone with your child inside. I could sympathize with that, definitely. In fact, I felt bad for her, until they said that, oh, she left the doors unlocked and the car running. While she was pumping gas. At that point, all sympathy went out the window. Honestly, I feel sorry for the poor four-year-old, who evidently is learning nothing about common sense or safety in general. First of all, you're supposed to shut off your car when you pump gas...secondly, it's one thing to leave the doors unlocked if you drive a low-to-the-ground car or if you fill your gas tank on the driver's side, where you could see someone walking up to your driver's side door and getting in. It's another thing entirely if you fill up on the passenger's side or you drive a monstrously tall SUV. Why risk it? Especially with a child in the car.

But it wasn't the woman's lack of common sense that got me about the whole thing...I'm used to hearing about that kind of thing, honestly. What got me was the sympathy the news gave her last night, and then I had to hear more sympathy on the radio this morning from some dumb DJs who could relate because they had little kids.

How about you just lock your f-ing doors, morons?

--Aside from that, my life has been work, work, work. Really, it's been tough, but we got in under deadline today under some really, really tough conditions, so it's been very much worthwhile. It's been a rough two weeks, but maybe I'll emerge from it after the weekend, which is already shaping up to be a little nutso itself. But, hey, is that a surprise? :)
