--242 days.
--Oh, how I so missed the days of having to practically beg people to play softball. Today, I've relived those days. So, currently, we're sitting on having 8 people for our co-rec work team tonight. Too many women just couldn't make it. It's frustrating as all hell. It really is. But, since we barely have enough, we'll go take our licks and that's that. At least it'll save $50 by getting out there. But that doesn't make me all that happy about it, I'll say that. But I can't make anyone play, since it's a company team...I just hope this doesn't continue.
--Labor Day weekend was good. Can't complain at all, really. Big woohoo! to Kim and Nick for hosting another great barbecue. Though I did not partake in the actual ingestion of any food (since I was full from my previous outing earlier), the beer was good and the camaraderie was better. :) Meanwhile, I also drafted three fantasy football teams this weekend. I feel pretty good about each of them, but really, how often does anyone feel terrible about their teams before the season started? Maybe that's why so few people win--they follow their strategy perfectly and are content, but it's the wrong strategy? Maybe that's been my problem? :)
--Don't know if I mentioned this before, but we got our countertop. Now, it simply awaits being installed toward the end of the month. I'm hoping that, unlike many other family-operated projects, it goes smoothly. But, I realize that is probably a futile wish.
--Other than that, I went out and bought a new platy for the tank, and it promptly died in the quarantine tank the next day, even though it looked fantastic. That's too bad, too, because I was actually excited about the little guy.
--Yeah, and that reminds me that I'm happy the weekend turned out good, because I had an infuriating experience to kick the weekend off when I returned from work on Friday. I took the train Friday to save money (since a gallon of mid-grade gas is now MORE than a Metra ticket from my place to work). Well, that backfired, since I got home and noticed a ticket tacked to my car window. Turns out, duh, my license plate sticker had expired 2 days ago. Of course, since the state is stupid, I did not receive my renewal form, since I moved, and of course, they can't cross-reference with the driver's license division or whatever. So, I was pissed that I relied on something and it didn't come through. Suffice to say, I'm setting up my own reminder for next year. But what infuriated me was the timing of it. Got home at 4:30pm. Of course, all the Sec. of State offices nearby close at 5pm, so there was no way I'd get to them. Found online that the Niles one was open until 5:30. Thought I might have a chance if traffic was OK, even though it was on the far side of Niles, by Golf Mill. Of course, I had to take this chance, because all these offices were closed Saturday-Monday for Labor Day, and with my luck, they'd ticket me every single day over the weekend or some shit. Thankfully, traffic was light, and I made it with 10 minutes to spare. Only to find out they take cash and checks, no plastic. The guy says, there's a bank on the other side of the strip mall, but hurry. So I run across the parking lot and back, pay my $78, get my sticker and leave. I paid the damned $50 ticket today.
In summary: In an effort to save money and avoid heavy commute times, I left the car home and took the train. It of course was ticketed, which wouldn't have happened if I drove to work. In order to get my sticker, I had to drive 3/4 of the way back to work, using up that much gas and having to sit in rush hour traffic on the way home anyway.
