The hits just keep on coming, baby!

Well, I was in the hospital Thursday afternoon through last night. Earlier this week, I thought maybe I had a bladder infection, but I wasn't sure, because there wasn't much pain and the symptoms were VERY inconsistent. So, I thought I'd keep an eye on things and go to the doctor if it didn't get better. Symptoms did not worsen, but they were still there. So, after coming back from travel Tuesday and Wednesday, I scheduled a doctor's appt. for Thursday afternoon. Even the doctor said he wasn't totally sure, and gave me a prescription for antibiotics and a mandate to keep close watch on symptoms and call over the weekend if anything changed.

It didn't take the weekend. As we were at Kinko's faxing home-purchase info, my abdomen between my belly-button and ribs started really, really hurting. Instead of going to Walgreens to get my prescription, we went home and called the doc, who confirmed that, yes, it would probably be smart to hit the emergency room. So we did. After pressing on my belly, the only thing they could think was that it might be appendicitis, though it was strange that it wasn't a localized pain. They gave me meds and had me drink contrast to get a CAT scan. I felt better after the meds. But when the meds wore off, the pain was much, much worse, and this time it did feel localized to the right side. More meds knocked the pain down before the CAT scan.

CAT scan, however, came back clean. Even though my appendix felt tender (as did my bladder, by the way) when docs pressed on it, there was no inflammation that they could see. But, they made me "NPO" (no drink or food) and admitted me for observation. I ran a fever briefly after the CAT scan and threw up the contrast, which they said is pretty normal, honestly.

So, yesterday, I woke up and felt better...honestly, my arm with the IV hurt much, much more and was bruising up (and is still bruised), compared to my midsection. So, they checked my white blood cell count again, and it had gone down to 8 (compared to, I believe 15 the evening before), which is more normal. After a 30-hour full-on fast (no food or drink...not even water--just IV fluid), I was able to keep down the hospital's "clear liquid" dinner.

But they did say to keep tabs on everything and take it slow getting back into solid foods, just in case. So I've been trying to take it easy...I still have some remnant issues, but I don't think they're major as of now. We'll see how my body responds.

So, that's where that is...as of now, we are buying the house, if I didn't update that, despite the problems it has. We figure we can take care of those problems, as severe as they might be. So that's the good news of it all.

And today is my little cousin's "memorial" service in Texas...which obviously I did not go to.
